Hello Mike,
Yes I think the majority of us Brits had a successful week.
Looking back on the Championship, it was a very well run regatta. The Race Committee were very efficient. They kept us on the beach until they were ready to start us. This meant that we didn’t have to drift around for long periods of time. Also they packed in lots of races on the days that we could race, with minimal hanging around between races. And, the shore / safety committee was very efficient in getting us both on and off the water in a safe and timely manner.
It was unfortunate though that we lost a couple of days sailing due to an on-shore breeze which meant that launching was impossible.
As you know, I have battled with the radial rig for many years and become very unhappy that I am not competitive in conditions above F2-3. So, after competing in South Korea, I (together with friends) put forward a proposal to ILCA to adopt the 4.7 for ladies. This rig is now accepted in UK and European Masters events which is a great result and Calella was the first time that there was a fleet of 4.7 sailors. I hope that in future championships, the numbers of 4.7s will increase.
Kind Regards
Lesley
